Hi I’m Chelsea, and I had quite the evening on the 14th of April and thought I’d share it with you all.

I was settling in to bed, mind you I’m still in recovery from a relatively serious surgery and am four weeks post operation. Imagine rain sounds at the right volume, ice cold air conditioning and cozy blankets with a hot water bottle on your stomach and a heating pad on your back and side. All of a sudden you hear bloodcurdling screaming coming from the end of the house.

My instant reaction was to jump out of bed and to sprint to my mother who was screaming at the top of her lungs. I faintly remembered feeling a tearing sensation followed by burning from my stomach up to my ribs, but I was already up to a full run to get to my mother and make sure she was okay. I likely woke up the entire house and potentially my neighbours (SORRY IF THIS WAS YOU) just to ensure I had backup should I need it.

My bathroom was flooding, and when I say flooding I mean spraying everywhere filling every corner in the room causing my makeup brushes became boats, floating down the stream coming out of the cabinets. Boiling hot water was streaming out of the cabinet under my sink and saturated everything inside, along with the tiles leading towards the hallway.

We raced to pull everything out of the cabinets and were creating temporary dams out of beach towels. I feel like my historic delegation skills were honed to get the boys to turn off the hot water system, locate a mop and bucket, and bust out the carpet vacuum we have. At this point the water began seeping into the bedroom next to the bathroom from under the floor. We were finally able to stop the water flooding the bathroom and began the long cleanup mopping the floors and drying the rest of them with the rest of our towels. Please keep in mind it was midnight and everyone had a huge day and that we were all in bed or asleep at this point.

Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was running on the initial adrenaline rush from hearing my mother screaming. Once that slowly began wearing off the stark reality of the tearing sensation really came into full effect. To avoid going back to the hospital at any and all costs, I decided to call the 13 HEALTH line to have a consult and weigh up the situation to see if it could wait until the morning. I began to realise this would not be the case. I was told I needed to make my way to the hospital… GREAT…

My mother, god bless her, put on her shoes and helped me get to the car. We got to the hospital around 12pm and I was taken through at 1:30am. The initial examination hurt so bad that they decided to leave me in that room and out of the waiting room, which was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday. This was such a small mercy as I had a clean bed I could almost manoeuvre to a slightly comfortable position, especially considering the discomfort from the waiting room. I was not anticipating the company I’d be keeping prior to my visit, but I was very grateful for the space away from them. They came to collect me at 2:30am to take me to a bed and gave me some proper pain relief.

I sent my mother on her way at 3am so at least one of us could get some sleep, and then was up in pain until 3:30am when an ED nurse read my last admission documents and helped advocate for me. I got some stronger pain relief however it didn’t completely dissolve the pain. I was up until 5:30am listening to the obnoxiously loud snoring from another patient and got a whole 30 minutes rest before being woken up by a doctor.

As you can see, I felt AMAZING… I was then told that my bloodwork and other tests all came back clear and that it was likely a spasm as I’ve been taking this recovery incredibly slowly due to how intense the pain still is. It’s not like I hadn’t heard that exact line by a variety of medical personnel however I was too exhausted to even think straight so decided going home was the best decision.

I got home around 7:30am and slept all day and night. Only waking up to take care of personal needs and re medicate due to the pain. I woke up the next day and was still exhausted.

Now I’m sitting at home, recovering slowly from this whole ordeal on top of the surgical journey I’ve been on.

It’s been reassuring knowing that those around me can choose to be up to date with the happenings in my life by reading my blog posts, it also saves answering most questions which saves me a lot of time 😂

I hope you are all having an amazing week and a massive Thankyou for following along my journey.

XOXO Chels
